ClearSCADA 2009 Highlights

Control Microsystems is committed to providing customers with a market leading product, supporting and promoting the latest standards and operating systems. The release of the R2.2 service pack of ClearSCADA 2009 offers the following enhancements:

This page focuses on these and other highlights of ClearSCADA 2009, such as:

SMS Command Processor

Send SMS messages directly using GSM modem to mobile phones without connecting to a third party provider. Receive SMS messages sent to ClearSCADA from a mobile phone to:

Multi-Trace Ad-hoc Trends

Trend displays can be configured "on the fly" to allow users of ViewX and WebX to create and modify trends as required. Ad-hoc trends can be added to a Favorites List or to an existing Operator Document Store for later reference.

A demonstration of ad-hoc trends has been added to the ClearSCADA Example Projects available on the CD and on the Free Trial Demo. Please see the Trends page in the Operate section of the Presentation.

Driver Enhancements

Driver Development Kit (DDK) - While hundreds of RTU types are already supported by ClearSCADA’s native drivers and integrated OPC drivers, the ClearSCADA DDK provides a .Net 2.0 assembly for creating custom communication drivers in any .Net 2.0 compliant language.

.Net Application Program Interface (API) - A new .Net API provides automation commands for use within a DDK custom driver, or from an external user program written on a .Net platform. For example, a program written in Visual Studio may connect to the ClearSCADA server to perform actions such as monitoring, control or configuration of the ClearSCADA database.

Native OLE DB Driver - allows external applications, such as SQLServer, to connect to the ClearSCADA database and retrieve data.

Enhanced Connectivity to SCADAPack E-Series Controllers

The SCADAPack E-Series Utilities are fully integrated into ClearSCADA. This means that controller configuration and ISaGRAF programs for any E-Series SCADAPack may be downloaded from one application: ClearSCADA.

Also, data logging within the controller may be retrieved to the ClearSCADA historian.

Eavesdrop Support for Modbus

The SCADAPack Modbus driver now supports eavesdrop operation to allow ClearSCADA to operate in parallel to an existing SCADA system. This functionality is typically used during the commissioning of a new ClearSCADA system to allow data comparison against the existing system.

64-Bit Operating Systems & Larger Databases up to 500,000 Objects

Support for 64-bit operating systems, like Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows Vista 64-bit edition, allow customers to utilize the latest and most powerful server hardware for their critical infrastructure.

64-bit Vista enables processes to address more than 2 GB of RAM which means the capacity for larger databases has increased up to 500,000 objects.
Note: 32-bit and 64-bit servers & clients may be mixed in any combination.

Alarm Routing & Set-Point Time Profiles

New options for redirecting alarms: Route to specific users or workstations that have exclusive responsibility to acknowledge certain alarms. Or route an alarm to an email, to an SMS message, or to a specific alarm severity level.

Alarm set-point time profiles allow analog limits to vary over the course of a day, automatically accounting for time-of-day conditions at the RTU site.

Integrated Kepware OPC Drivers

Kepware server The Kepware KEPServerEX OPC Server boosts connectivity with even more third party devices when this driver option is selected. This integrated server enables more device protocols, adding support for hundreds of additional types of devices.

Licensing is offered for 1, 2, or 3 driver types. For example, when licensed for 2 driver types, any two drivers can be run concurrently by simply selecting from the Kepware suite of drivers.

KepServerEX is also provided in a 2 hour demonstration mode when the PLC driver option is selected from the ClearSCADA installation menu.

CFX Export

Flow-Cal EFM data gathered from flow computers running RealFLO may be exported from ClearSCADA in the Common File Exchange (CFX) format. CFX files can then be imported by Flow-Cal for further analysis.

DMZ Permanent Standby Server

This new type of Permanent Standby Server is designed to be located outside the corporate or SCADA firewalls. The Main-to-Standby communication mechanism has been modified such that communications can only be initiated from the main server to a DMZ permanent standby, allowing corporate firewalls to block inbound communications attempts and providing significantly improved security.

Dynamic Meta Data

ClearSCADA has been enhanced to allow custom database fields to be added dynamically, such that the server no longer needs to be restarted after adding or modifying metadata. Custom database fields are now propagated to any standby servers automatically, reducing the time required for system changes.

Multi-Site WebX and WebX Reports

Support for cross database links permits WebX users to navigate seamlessly between mimics on different ClearSCADA systems. ClearSCADA permits Crystal Reports to be viewed through the WebX client. A new tab "Export to WebX" added to the Crystal Report properties allows a PDF version of selected reports to be made available to the WebX client.
