Choice of Clients

ClearSCADA offers two advanced clients that include feature sets perfect for today’s SCADA professionals.

The first is ClearSCADA ViewX, which includes development and operational environments allowing engineers and technicians to work simultaneously using login and security settings to determine the features available. The ViewX clients are ideally suited for remote installations where communication speeds are lower, or where all the advanced features of the ViewX development and operational client are required. This rich client has a wide range of productivity tools that offer the highest quality user experience available in any SCADA management platform. Intelligent alarm banners, navigation tools, operator tool bars, easy to use queries and effective trends are just a few of the refined features available for operators. Straight forward drawing tools, comprehensive symbol libraries, zoom-able vector graphics and incredibly powerful replication tools are just a few of the development features available to engineers. See more on Integrated Development Environment.

The second client offered with ClearSCADA is WebX, a thin client technology that requires no configuration and runs on Internet Explorer. This client is perfect for casual users who wish to view SCADA system data through corporate networks without the need for development functions. This client/server facility requires no third-party software or web servers; the WebX server is an integral part of the ClearSCADA server and the client runs on a browser.

System data is displayed by WebX through a combination of HTML pages with content shown in ClearSCADA-specific ActiveX controls. All ActiveX controls are automatically downloaded from the server and installed as needed, no additional configuration is needed. Data displayed in the WebX client is refreshed uniquely according to data type. Table-based list data is updated on demand from the client, typically by refreshing the Internet Explorer page, or through the refresh options available on the ActiveX list objects. For real time process data display and graphs, data is available without any interference from the user and is handled automatically by an internal refresh mechanism associated with the ActiveX object displaying the data.

Security over WebX is maintained through the use of secure XML and HTML connections on standard web ports and Secure Socket Layer (SSL) communications with 128-bit encryption using Private Keys and Certificates.
